Upper River: WOW, is all that can be said about the upper river right now. The Salmonflies are out; the Caddis are out; and the PMD’s and Goldenstone’s are out in droves. This upper, although seeing higher pressure then other rivers in the state right now, is fishing great. Dry-Dropper rig seems to be the way to go, but for the inbetween times, caddis pupa, stoneflies, and various attractor nymphs are all taking fish.
The lower Madison is fishing very consistent right now, and has been threw down some huge numbers days for most anglers fishing it. The Goldenstone are out in full-force; the Yellow Sallies are in full force; and the late afternoon PMD and Caddis hatches are spectacular, especially with a little cloud cover. The numbers of tubers on the lower Madison increases by the day, so be sure to put on early or late.
